India, April 30 -- International Workers' Day, commonly known as Labour Day in many countries and also referred to as May Day, is an annual observance dedicated to honouring workers and the working class. Supported by the global labour movement, it is celebrated each year on May 1 or, in some regions, on the first Monday of May.

The day serves to acknowledge the social and economic contributions of workers and to draw attention to the continuing fight for workers' rights and fair labour conditions globally.
