New Delhi, Jan. 8 -- The ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) on Wednesday received an Action Taken Report (ATR) from X (formerly Twitter), which the government had asked to be submitted on January 2, 2026, following complaints that the platform's AI chatbot, Grok, was generating sexually explicit and objectionable images of women.
A senior ministry official said they are currently examining the report. It was submitted after the government granted X a 48-hour extension to its original 72-hour deadline. X had sought more time, citing staff holidays. In its letter to X, MeitY had directed X to carry out a comprehensive technical, procedural and governance-level review of Grok.
