India, Dec. 31 -- The youth-led protests in Nepal, which erupted on September 8 over a social media ban, economic hardship and corruption, quickly morphed into nationwide fury after a deadly crackdown. Spearheaded by protesters under a loose "Gen Z" umbrella title, the protests led to the collapse of the KP Sharma Oli-led government, killed over 70 people and left parliament, courts and government buildings in flames. The two-day unrest also battered Nepal's fragile economy, where the World Bank estimates a "staggering" 82% of the workforce is in informal employment, with GDP per capita at just Rs.1.21 lakh in 2024.
