India, May 16 -- The police on Wednesday busted an interstate gang of car thieves who allegedly rented cars in the city and drove them to Nagaland and Nepal to sell them. Two members of the gang were arrested from Wazirabad in the city on the basis of a tipoff. The police said four other members of the gang are on the run and a hunt has been launched to nab them.

The police said the gang preferred SUVs and rented them from agencies in Gurugram, Palwal, Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Rohtak, Jhajjar, Bhiwani and Chandigarh. The cars were sold off for Rs.5 lakh-Rs.7 lakh. The police said the gang had rented and sold off at least 57 cars in the last five years. The police on Wednesday allegedly recovered a Mahindra Scorpio from the two men.
