Ex-Balasore MP quits BJD, may join ruling BJP
Bhubaneswar, March 11 -- Ahead of the March 16 Rajya Sabha polls, senior BJD leader and former Balasore MP Rabindra Kumar Jena resigned from the primary membership of the regional outfit on Tuesday, citing personal reasons. This is the latest in a string of exits that have battered the Naveen Patnaik-led party since its defeat in the 2024 polls.
His wife, Subasini Jena, is a sitting BJD MLA from Basta.
People close to Jena said he may join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in a day or two, although the senior leader did not confirm the same.
The ruling BJP aims to win three of the four seats going to the biennial polls, while the BJD has the number to win one seat.
