Kolkata, Jan. 22 -- Police have registered an FIR against unknown Election Commission of India (ECI) officials on the basis of a complaint lodged by the son of an 82-year-old elector who died by suicide in West Bengal's Purulia district, hours before he was scheduled to appear for an SIR hearing. EC has termed the allegations an attempt to browbeat SIR officials.
The elderly man died by suicide on December 29 and his son lodged a police complaint on January 16, official said.
