Curfew after violence in Manipur's Ukhrul
IMPHAL, Feb. 9 -- Tension gripped the Litan village of Manipur's Ukhrul district following a clash between two tribal groups, prompting the administration to impose an indefinite curfew on Sunday in the area with immediate effect.
Police said the clash erupted after an altercation between a group of Tangkhul Naga and Kuki communities on Saturday at around 8.30pm at Litan Sareikhong area. It added that Sterling Shimray of Sakibung village sustained an injury to his jaw during the altercation, soon members of the two communities pelted stones at each other. Police had to fire tear gas shells to control the clash between the villagers.
Police officers said that some villagers also reported hearing live shots fired by some unknown people.
