Thiruvananthapuram, May 5 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday won three seats in the Kerala assembly elections, registering its best ever performance in the southern state. The party bettered its tally from the 2016 state polls, the only time it won a seat in the 126-member Kerala assembly. The poll results on Monday gave a slight push to the BJP's bid to make inroads in Kerala dominated by UDF and LDF. The party won Nemom and Kazhakoottam in Thiruvananthapuram district and Chathannoor in Kollam. In Nemom, BJP state chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar defeated Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate V Sivankutty by a margin of 4,978 votes.
