Bhopal, March 2 -- At least 3,240kg of toxic waste linked to the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy was burnt under the trial incineration till Saturday evening, and the air quality and other parameters continued to be in the permissible range, officials said on the second day of the trial.

The process of incineration is being monitored by officials from Central Pollution Control Board and Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board, Dhar district collector Priyank Mishra said. For combustion and cleaning of toxic waste especially soil, 3,240 kg of lime has been mixed with the waste, MPPCB regional officer Shrinivas Dwivedi said.
