Kolkata, Feb. 22 -- At least 480 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) would be initially deployed in West Bengal to pave the ground for the coming assembly polls, the Centre has informed the state government in a letter. The first batch of 240 companies is expected to arrive on March 1, even before the poll dates are announced by the Election Commission of India. The second batch would arrive on March 10. "It has been decided to initially deploy 480 companies of CAPF for area domination, confidence building measures, poll day related duties, guarding of EVMs and strong room centres and counting centre arrangements during the election process in West Bengal," said letter issued on Friday, a copy of which HT has seen.
