MUMBAI, Jan. 26 -- Maharashtra's director general of police (DGP) Sadanand Shankarrao Date, who headed the National Investigation Agency, has been awarded the President's police medal for meritorious service on the occasion of Republic Day. Date was the chief of the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad until March 2024, when he moved to New Delhi to lead NIA, India's anti-terrorism agency. He was repatriated to Maharashtra last month at the request of the state, which wanted to appoint him as the DGP. Date was awarded President's medal for Gallantry for saving lives and taking on two of the 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operatives who stormed Mumbai on November 26, 2008. htc
