India, Jan. 9 -- Copper prices strengthened in futures trade on Friday, gaining Rs 9.30 to Rs 1,294.20 per kg, supported by higher demand in the spot market.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange of India, copper contracts for February delivery increased by Rs 9.30, or 0.72 per cent, to Rs 1,294.20 per kg, with a turnover of 5,928 lots.

Market analysts said fresh buying and higher bets by participants amid firm spot demand helped push copper prices higher in the futures market.
