India, March 2 -- The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has rolled out a deferred Customs duty payment facility for a new category of importers termed Eligible Manufacturer Importers (EMIs), in line with the announcement made in the Union Budget 2026–27 by the Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs.

The board has issued detailed eligibility criteria, application procedures and operational guidelines through Circular No. 08/2026-Customs dated February 28, 2026.

Under the new initiative, EMIs will be permitted to clear imported goods without immediate payment of Customs duty at the time of clearance. Instead, the duty can be paid on a monthly basis in accordance with the Deferred Payment of Import Duty Rules...
