DAR ES SALAAM, Dec. 20 -- REVAMPING of the ailing Tanzania-Zambia railway line (TAZARA) was high on the agenda during discussions between Tanzania's Speaker of the National Assembly Job Ndugai and the visiting China's Vice-Chairman of the National Peoples' Congress (NPC), Mr Ji Bingxuan.

Mr Ndugai pledged that he will form a special parliamentary committee to assess challenges facing the historic railroad after which it will recommend to the government remedial measures to revamp it.

The visiting Chinese leader, whose position is equivalent to Deputy Speaker in Tanzania, had earlier visited TAZARA headquarters on Wednesday morning and later met Speaker Ndugai in the evening at the National Assembly's sub-offices in Dar es Salaam.
