Srilanka, July 8 -- Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, Ananda Wijepala, announced in Parliament today (08) that there are currently 28,000 vacancies in the Sri Lanka Police Service.

In response to a parliamentary question, the Minister confirmed that urgent approval has been granted to recruit personnel for 5,000 of these vacancies.

He added that the relevant gazette notification has already been issued to initiate the recruitment process.
