Sri Lanka, Sept. 11 -- A tense situation unfolded in Parliament today (11) after Leader of the House, Minister Bimal Ratnayake, referred to opposition MPs as "Lapai Sipai," raising a strong protest from the Opposition.
The Opposition MPs demanded that Minister Ratnayake withdraw his statement, arguing that such language is unparliamentary and obscene. In response, Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne announced that the words would be expunged from the Order Paper.
Minister Ratnayake defended his comment, stating that Opposition MPs frequently use unparliamentary language toward the Speaker and rarely withdraw their remarks.
