Srilanka, July 8 -- The Colombo Magistrate's Court has granted bail to former Health Ministry Secretary Janaka Sri Chandraguptha, who was arrested by the Bribery Commission over allegations of embezzling more than Rs. 3.5 million.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali issued the bail order after reviewing submissions from both the Bribery Commission and the defense counsel.

The court ordered Chandraguptha to be released on three sureties of Rs. 500,000 each. He was also barred from leaving the country and instructed to surrender his passport.

Bribery Commission officials informed the court that further investigations are ongoing, particularly regarding two bank accounts belonging to the suspect's wife. Statements are expected to be...
