Sri Lanka, Jan. 24 -- Senior Attorney-at-Law G.K.A. Chaminda Kumara Kularatne, who served as the Deputy Secretary General and Chief of Staff of Parliament, has been placed under suspension. The suspension reportedly took effect yesterday, January 23, 2026.

The decision was reached following a "problematic situation" and emerging procedural concerns regarding the legality of his initial appointment to these high-ranking positions.

Kularatne, a veteran legal professional, had been performing his dual duties as Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary General since assuming the role on September 15, 2023.
