Sri Lanka, Aug. 4 -- In separate operations conducted by the Navy in coordination with the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Department from July 23 to 31, twenty-two individuals involved in various illegal fishing activities were arrested along with five dinghies in multiple locations countrywide. One person with 210 unauthorised fishing nets were also nabbed during another operation conducted with the Police.

In the coastal areas of Cod Bay, Kumburupiddi, Kinniya, Flag Staff Point and Muttur in Trincomalee and Kakarativu in Mannar, the Eastern and North Central Naval Commands nabbed 22 persons for their involvement in fishing with unauthorised nets, explosives and engagement in illegal diving.
