Dhaka, May 21 -- Supporters of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain have gathered at the Kakrail and Matsya Bhaban areas to demand that he be sworn in as the mayor of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

Activists of the party and supporters of Ishraque have staged regular protests to push for the demand since May 13.

On Tuesday, the protesters announced that they would escalate their demonstrations if he was not sworn in by 10am on Wednesday. The Dhaka South City Corporation Employees Union had also announced that it would suspend all civil service in the DSCC area if the demand was not met.
