Dhaka, May 31 -- A high-stakes contest for control of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has drawn a large voter turnout, as the race for 35 director posts wraps up with electronic vote counting now in progress.
Polling at the Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in Dhaka and the Radisson Blu Bay View Hotel in Chattogram ended at 5:15pm after a quiet, disruption-free day.
In Dhaka, 1,377 out of 1,564 voters cast their ballots--an 88.21 percent turnout.
Chattogram saw 254 votes from 303 registered members, or 83.83 percent.
As polls closed, Election Board Chairman Mohammad Iqbal stood at the Dhaka centre entrance and said: "If there are any voters left, we will allow them."
