Dhaka, April 2 -- Interim government's Information Advisor Mahfuj Alam has said that the government cannot decide to ban Awami League all by itself.

On Wednesday, he said: "The government believes that this decision cannot be taken without consulting political parties, as well as domestic and international stakeholders."

"People have repeatedly asked us to ban Awami League. We believe that the government will take this decision after consulting with everyone," he added.

Mahfuj made the remarks during a visit to his ancestral home in Lakshmipur, where he met with his family members and prayed at the graves of his grandparents. He also visited a madrasa.
