Dhaka, April 2 -- Assailants have shot and wounded a 6-year-old child during an attack on a home in Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila.

The child, Abida Sultana, was shot in the lower abdomen.

According to police and witnesses, a group of assailants stormed the residence of Ahid Hossain, the child's uncle, at Kashipur Kachari Bari of Basikpur Union around 7:30pm on Tuesday.

Abida, the daughter of Ibrahim Hossain and Amena Begum, was rushed to Sadar Hospital, where doctors gave her first aid before transferring her to Dhaka for advanced care, locals said.

Ahid, a professional driver from Dhaka, had returned to his hometown on the eve of Eid, locals recounted.
