Bastar, Oct. 17 -- Chhattisgarh Home Minister Vijay Sharma on Friday welcomed the surrender of 208 Naxalites in the North Bastar region. He said that the Maoists have taken the right decision and saved many lives.

Speaking to ANI, Vijay Sharma said, "The decision is according to the wishes of the people of Bastar. A large number of people from various Maoist organisations have decided to rehabilitate and begin a new life. They have taken the right decision and saved many lives. The development schemes were unable to reach the remote locations of Bastar. They have paved the way for development. Through them, we appeal to other Maoists to surrender. The government will set red carpet to welcome them."
