Mumbai, May 18 -- Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday highlighted that India's maritime sector has witnessed a surge in the numbers of women seafarers in the last 10 years, recording a whopping growth of 649 per cent.
Union Minister Sonowal made these remarks at the inaugural of International Day for Women in Maritime celebrations in Mumbai.
According to an official release from the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, highlighting on the focus of the government since 2014, Sonowal also said how the India's maritime sector has witnessed a surge of women seafarers from 341 in 2014 to 2557 in 2024, recording a whopping growth of 649 per cent.
