Rohtak, Oct. 3 -- Leader of Opposition in the Haryana Assembly and senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Friday accused the BJP government of betraying women voters by backtracking on its flagship promise of providing Rs 2,100 monthly financial assistance, now mired in a contentious registration process.

Addressing a press conference here, Hooda questioned the necessity of mandatory registrations, pointing out that the government already holds data on citizens.

"They (BJP) had said they will give Rs 2100 to all women, now they are asking them to register. They have everyone's Aadhar card, address, and family ID. Then, what is the need for registration? They had said they will give it to 20 lakh women, but till now only 1 lakh ...
