Banda Aceh, Aceh, Dec. 2 -- Indonesian soldiers and residents crossed swollen rivers to reach isolated villages in Aceh Tengah, delivering aid to survivors who had been cut off for more than a week after flash floods and landslides severed all access routes.

Lilawangsa Resort Military Command Chief Col. Ali Imran said troops from 09/Ketol Subdistrict Military Command, 0106 Central Aceh Military Command, risked their safety to bring food and supplies to Burlah Kekuyang and Buge Ara villages in Ketol district.

"I salute them. To ease people's hardships, our Babinsa soldiers did not hesitate despite the dangers," Imran said in a statement from Banda Aceh on Tuesday.
