Jakarta, Feb. 11 -- Indonesia's waste management rate reached 24.95 percent as of January 2026, Environment Minister Hanif Faisol Nurofiq said Wednesday, a significant rise from 10 percent recorded in early 2025, reflecting progress in nationwide waste handling.

Speaking during a podcast with ANTARA in Jakarta, Nurofiq said a March 2025 evaluation of 472 districts and cities showed management covered only about 10 percent of the 141,000 tons of daily waste generated nationwide.

"We provided guidance and outreach for nearly a year. By January 2026, our inspections and monitoring show substantial improvement," he said, highlighting government efforts to boost local waste management capacity.
