Agartala, March 24 -- Shyamal Chowdhury, a leading literary personality and the father of Tripura's Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury passed away on Sunday morning in a private hospital here after a prolonged illness.
He was 83.
Chowdhury is survived by his wife and only son Sushanta, a second-term Minister of BJP-led government in Tripura.
Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has expressed condolence over the death of Shyamal Chowdhury and said, "I am deeply saddened by the death of Shyamal Chowdhury, a Mukti Judda Maitri awardee and the father of my cabinet colleague Sushanta Chowdhury."
