Dhaka, April 17 -- To facilitate the proposed merger between EXIM Bank and Padma Bank, Bangladesh Bank (BB) has appointed an audit firm to assess assets of both the banks, sources at the BB said.

With appointment of the certified auditor, the amalgamation process of the Exim Bank and the crisis-ridden Padma Bank officially started.

Talking to the media, BB spokesperson Md Mezbaul Hoque said the central bank appointed Rahman and Rahman Huq for assessing assets of the banks. And the firm has been asked to submit its report in the next 2-3 months.

If the banks reach consensus over the report of the audit firm, the next step of the proposed merger in accordance with the guidelines will be started, according to him.
