Sri Lanka, May 12 -- In a recent episode of the Derana 360 TV program, Anura Kumara Dissanayake (AKD), the leader of the National People's Power (NPP), declared his readiness to traverse a "vine bridge" in order to offer remedies for the nation's challenges. The "vine bridge" notion was initially brought up by President Ranil Wickremesinghe following his appointment as Prime Minister under the Gotabaya Rajapaksa administration.

Mahinda Rajapaksa stepped down as Prime Minister on May 9, 2022. Two days later, on May 11, Ranil Wickremesinghe assumed the role of the Prime Minister. On May 16, in his first address to the Nation as Prime Minister, he spoke of a "vine bridge".
