France, Feb. 24 -- France's annual Agriculture Show opens on Saturday as farmers continue to protest in France and Europe over rising costs and dropping revenue. The government is caught between maintaining a steady food supply, meeting environmental regulations and supporting France's farming culture.

President Emmanuel Macron was met with a whistles from angry protesters who had forced open the gates ahead of the opening day of the fairon Saturday, in Porte de Versailles, near Paris.

Macron began his traditional visit with a breakfast meeting with trade union leaders, behind closed doors, before addressing the press.
