Kolkata, Feb. 20 -- In an alleged "politically motivated statement" that was promptly rejected by the Trinamool Congress, National Commission for Women chairperson Rekha Sharma on Monday charged the Mamata Banerjee Government with curbing women's rights in the State and prescribed President Rule as the only way to restore order in the area.

Meanwhile, in a major respite for the Bengal administration, the Supreme Court stayed the proceedings against the top Bengal bureaucrats, including Chief Secretary BP Gopalika, Director General of Police Rajiv Kumar, North 24 Parganas DM Sharad Dwivedi and SP HM Rehman before a parliamentary Privilege Committee.
