Mumbai, March 16 -- Indian Navy's former chief and Magsaysay Award winner Admiral Laxminarayan Ramdas (Retd), who had played a heroic role during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War and crusaded for nuclear disarmament in South Asia, passed away on Friday.

Adm Ramdas, who was the Chief of Naval Staff for nearly three years from December 1, 1990 to September 30, 1993, died at 6.25 am at the Military Hospital in Secunderabad in Telangana, following old age issues.

He was 90 and is survived by Lalita Ramdas and their three daughters and grandchildren.
