New Delhi, Feb. 19 -- Dermatomyositis, a rare condition characterised by muscle inflammation which tragically claimed the life of Suhani Bhatnagar, a child actor known for her role in the movie "Dangal" is primarily triggered by a combination of genetic predisposition, immune system abnormalities, and environmental factors such as high levels of airborne pollution.

Health experts have noted that dermatomyositis is more frequently diagnosed in women than in men, with incidence rates reported at 3.98 and 4.68 per 1,000,000, respectively.

According to the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD), viral infections or underlying cancers may also serve as triggers for dermatomyositis. Air pollution, particularly fine particulate matter (...
