Chandigarh, May 8 -- Chandigarh Congress candidate Manish Tewari on Tuesday said that its government at the centre will provide 50 percent reservation to women in government jobs. Addressing a meeting of the city women organized by local councillor Taruna Mehta in Sector 30, Tewari said, providing 50 percent reservation to women in government jobs was one of the 25 guarantees the party has promised in its election manifesto. He said that Congress has always encouraged the progress of women and their participation in public life including politics. He pointed out, it was the Congress Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi who had provided 33 percent reservation to women in local bodies.
