Guwahati, Feb. 4 -- Ischemic heart disease, also known as coronary artery disease (CAD), is a condition that affects the blood flow to the heart. It is the leading cause of death globally, responsible for an estimated 17.9 million deaths in 2019.
The most common cause of this heart disease is atherosclerosis, a buildup of plaque in the arteries that supply blood to the heart. This plaque can narrow the arteries, reducing blood flow to the heart muscle. Other factors that can contribute to ischemic heart disease include:
High blood pressure
High cholesterol
Smoking
Diabetes
Obesity
Physical inactivity
