NEW DELHI, Jan. 16 -- In one of the most life changing decisions for me, I resigned from Indian Administrative Service recently. At one level, it was an act of protest to remind the Centre of its responsibilities towards the people of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).

Kashmir is in crisis. A record number of killings was reported in 2018. There is an environment of siege. Educated young people are engaged in a suicidal upsurge against the Indian State. Space has not been provided to the Hurriyat leadership for political activity and there are restrictions on the movement of the Hurriyat leadership.
