Kathmandu, Feb. 13 -- The government has proposed a new law seeking to impose a fine of Rs 1.5 million and five years in prison for those writing improper things on social networking sites.

The bill related to managing information technology has a provision that no one should be duped, dominated, discouraged, discriminated, scolded, provoked, and kept in the dark through social networking sites. Anyone found involved in such activities would be fined up to Rs 1.5 million and five years in jail or both, according to the provision.

The proposed legislation has also barred the people from giving advertisements and broadcasting of the banned products on social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
