Wood Group H1 Profit Plunges, Sees Stronger H2; Backs FY17 Outlook - Quick Facts

India, Aug. 22 -- Energy services company Wood Group (John) plc (WG.L, WDGJF.PK) reported Tuesday that its first-half profit plunged 86.7 percent to $6 million from last year's $45 million. Earnings per share were 1.1 cents, down 90 percent from 10.9 cents last year.

Profit for the period was impacted by exceptional costs of $47.6 million.

Adjusted earnings per share were 22.9 cents, compared to 28.7 cents a year ago.

Swiss Trade Surplus Increases In July

India, Aug. 22 -- Switzerland's trade surplus increased in July despite a fall in exports, figures from the Federal Customs Administration showed Tuesday.

The trade surplus rose to CHF 3.6 billion from CHF 2.7 billion in June.

Exports declined by real 1.7 percent month-on-month in July, larger than the 1.3 percent decrease seen in June. Likewise, imports slid 1 percent versus 0.7 percent decrease in June.

No water cuts in Mumbai this year, lakes are 94.93% full

Mumbai, Aug. 22 -- Even with a month to go for the monsoon to get over, lakes supplying water to the city are 94.93% full.

As of Monday, the lakes have 13.73 lakh million litres, 73,000 litres lesser than the city's needs of 14.47 lakh million litres.

By the end of September, the city requires 14.47 lakh million litres to go without water cuts, according to civic officials' estimates for the city.

Gold smuggler arrested at BIA

Sri Lanka, Aug. 22 -- Customs spokesperson Sunil Jayarathne says a 27-year-old Sri Lankan was apprehended by the Customs officials at the BIA last evening (21) for trying to smuggle in gold items worth 1.2 million rupees.

The suspect has arrived from Saudi Arabia. The jewelries were hidden in his luggage.
