'CLASS-10 SUPPLEMENTARY EXAM FROM JUNE 24'

Cops detain protesting BJP district chief

Ludhiana, May 23 -- Police on Monday detained district BJP chief Ravinder Arora, who along with his supporters, was protesting against opening of a liquor vend on Barewal road near a school. The cops first tried to persuade the protesters but when they didn't relent, the latter were detained. Later, when BJP workers assembled outside the police station, the protesters were released.

Farmer commits suicide due to poverty

Bathinda, May 23 -- A farmer facing poor financial conditions committed suicide in Gill Kalan village by hanging himself on Sunday night. The victim has been identified as Gurnam Singh, 55. His body was spotted by the family on Monday morning. Poor financial conditions forced him to take the extreme step. Police have handed over the body to his family after conducting inquest proceedings.

Man booked on sodomy charges

Bathinda, May 23 -- Police have booked a man for sodomising a minor boy in Talwandi Sabo. On complaint of the father of the 8-year-old victim, a case under Section 377 (unnatural offences) of IPC has been registered against Sandeep Singh of Talwandi Sabo. The complainant alleged that the accused took his son into a hut and sodomised him.

Construction waste processing plant in Gurgaon

Chandigarh, May 23 -- The first construction and demolition waste processing plant of Haryana will be set up in Basai village of Gurugaon at a cost of about 13 crore to make the city debris-free. The plant to be set up on a three-acre land and will have capacity to process 300 tonne of waste per day, a government spokesperson said. The civic body will earmark different sites for dumping of construction and demolition waste.
