Commuters seek early solution to CNG sector's problems
ISLAMABAD, May 25 -- Commuters of the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, braving problems in the wake of closure of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations, have called for early solution to problems of CNG sector. The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has closed Qadirpur Gas Field for the annual maintenance and repair the plant for seven days, necessitating to close CNG filling stations for a week. Qadirpur Gas Field which supplies 400 MMCFD (million cubic feet per day) gas to National Gas Network, now it supplies only 125 to 130 MMCFD during the maintenance of plant. "We have to face numerous problems including thin public transport and above all, the overcharging by the taxi drivers, who are out to fully exploit the situation, coupled with scorching heat," Naqibullah, a private sector employee observed. He said solution to the CNG crisis lies in opening of LPG filling stations, across the country and import of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), but such steps should be taken in light of consultations with all stakeholders.
