India, March 22 -- The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday directed the ministry of electronics and information technology (MeitY) to immediately stop delivery of bulk WhatsApp messages under the "Viksit Bharat Sampark" initiative, to voters, that underlines Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration's record over the last decade. The poll body, which passed the order after receiving several complaints of violation of the Model Code of Conduct that came into force on March 16, ordered "no further delivery" of the messages and sought a compliance report from the ministry in the matter. "The move is a part of a series of decisions taken by the Commission to ensure a level-playing field," ECI said in a statement. Asking the government to ensure there is "no further delivery" of the bulk WhatsApp messages to the voters, ECI sought an "immediate" compliance report on the matter from the ministry. P10...
