India, March 4 -- BJP's Kuljeet Singh Sandhu and Rajinder Sharma on Monday defeated INDIA bloc's Gurpreet Singh Gabi and Nirmala Devi to win the elections of senior deputy mayor and deputy mayor, respectively, of Chandigarh.

Sandhu got 19 votes, while the INDIA bloc's (Congress + AAP) Gabi got 16. One vote was declared invalid in the senior deputy mayor's election.

In the deputy mayor's election, Sharma got 19 votes, while Nirmala Devi got 17 votes.

Newly appointed mayor Kuldeep Kumar Dhalor (from AAP) was the presiding authority for both elections.
