Man who facilitated child smuggling to Malaysia arrested
Sri Lanka, April 27 -- A group of officers from the Risk Assessment Unit of the Investigation Department of Immigration and Emigration, arrested the main facilitator in Sri Lanka who was involved in the smuggling of Sri Lankan children to Europe via Malaysia on April 25 at the Katunayake Airport. He is a 76-year-old resident of Dehiwala.
As he had been accused of human trafficking by taking 17 Sri Lankan children out of the country, the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration, Harsha Ilukpitiya, had ordered the Risk Assessment Unit of the Investigation of the Department ofImmigration and Emigration to carry out a special and comprehensive investigation on him.
