Sri Lanka, May 9 -- The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), no doubt, has ostensibly emerged in their new avatar as the National People's Power (NPP) in order to bury its unsavoury, murderous past and present a new image to the voting public. However, few among the discerning voting public, particularly among the older generation,has banished the lingering memory of the 1988/89 period that was marked by unprecedented bloodletting by the Rathu Sahodarayas and the counter insurgency launched by the Government to protect democracy and saving the country from sliding into anarchy.
